Description
The Nintendo Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip is the official first-party charging grip for Nintendo Switch 2.
It allows a left and right Joy-Con 2 controller to be attached to a single grip, creating a more traditional controller-style setup for tabletop or TV play.
Its biggest difference from the standard Joy-Con 2 Grip is charging capability.
The regular grip supplied with the Nintendo Switch 2 console is designed to hold the controllers together, but it does not recharge them. This separately sold Charging Grip adds a USB-C connection that can provide power to the attached Joy-Con 2 controllers.
That makes it particularly useful for players who regularly use Joy-Con 2 away from the console and don’t want to reconnect them to the Switch 2 every time they need to recharge.
The grip can also be used while the controllers are charging, so it can remain part of your normal controller setup instead of functioning only as a charging accessory.
Nintendo also adds GL and GR buttons to the rear of the grip.
These additional inputs can be assigned to other controller buttons, giving players easier access to selected controls without changing their normal hand position.
This can be especially useful in games where frequently used inputs would be more convenient on the rear of the controller.
The Charging Grip uses magnetic connections for attaching compatible Joy-Con 2 controllers and includes status indicators for player and charging information.
It is designed specifically for the Switch 2 generation and does not work with original Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers.
For players who prefer using the Joy-Con 2 as a combined controller instead of purchasing a separate full-size controller, the Charging Grip offers a straightforward first-party solution.

📝 Koinlift Notes
I would look at this as the official Nintendo option for someone who already likes using the Joy-Con 2 as a traditional controller but wants charging built into the grip.
That’s important because the grip included with the Switch 2 doesn’t actually charge the controllers.
If you normally attach your Joy-Con 2 to the included grip for TV play, you eventually have to move them back to the console or use another charging solution. This accessory basically removes that extra step.
I also think the GL and GR buttons make this more interesting than simply adding a USB-C port.
Having two programmable controls on the back means the Charging Grip can give the standard Joy-Con 2 setup some of the functionality normally associated with controllers that include rear buttons.
The biggest reason to choose this over one of the third-party charging grips we’ve looked at is probably simplicity and first-party compatibility.
There are third-party options with larger ergonomic handles, built-in batteries, RGB lighting, game storage, or other extras. Some of those may actually offer more features for the money.
The Nintendo option isn’t really trying to compete on the number of features.
Its advantage is that it’s made specifically for Joy-Con 2 by Nintendo, uses the intended controller connections, includes the GL/GR controls, and keeps the setup relatively straightforward.
I also wouldn’t look at this as a replacement for the Switch 2 Pro Controller.
If you want a larger traditional controller with full-size grips, the Pro Controller is still a different type of product.
This makes more sense for someone who already owns Joy-Con 2 and wants to get more use out of them.
For example, if two Joy-Con 2 controllers are normally attached to your console, you can remove them, place them into the Charging Grip, and immediately have a controller for tabletop or TV mode.
The main tradeoff is ergonomics.
The Joy-Con 2 are still providing the actual controls, so the overall shape isn’t going to become as substantial as a dedicated full-size controller. Players with larger hands or those who play for several hours at a time may still prefer something with larger handles.
Overall, I would consider the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip a simple official upgrade to the grip Nintendo includes with the Switch 2.
If you’re happy with the standard Joy-Con 2 controller layout but wish the included grip could charge them—and you would make use of the extra GL/GR buttons—this is probably the most straightforward option.
🏢 About the Brand
Nintendo is the manufacturer of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, Joy-Con 2 controllers, and the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip.

Nintendo offers several official Switch 2 controller options, including Joy-Con 2 controllers, the standard Joy-Con 2 Grip, the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
